Altivar ATV212 Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)

The Altivar ATV212 inverter drive is a recent updated version of the earlier version ATV21 variable speed motors from Schneider Electric. This VFD drive has an output frequency control of 0.5 to 200Hz, The Altivar 212 HVAC drive has been built for performance, intelligence and protection.

Features and Benefits

• It’s important that the drive is mounted in a dust and damp proof enclosure whilst in certain environment such as dust, corrosive gases, and high humidity also around any dripping or splashing liquid. This is to protect the drive and to ensure that whilst in the enclosure the maximum internal temperature can reach 50 °C. To help encourage efficient circulation, we recommend that you fit ventilation grills and remove the blanking cover from the top of the drive. Please refer to the datasheet for more information regarding this.
• The communication service allows the user to monitor inhibitable, read device identification, read holding registers, configure a time out setting, and write multiple registers and write a single register.
• Features an integrated class C2 EMC filter.
• The Altivar is a frequency controller for a three phase, squirrel cage motor.
• Available as standard IP21 and IP55 protection
• Electrostatic discharge immunity test level 3, conforming to IEC 61000-4-2.
• Less than 35% THDi harmonics due to Innovative C-less technology
• Embedded Building management communication protocols.
• Incorporates 3 logic inputs, 2 analogue inputs, 2 logic outputs and one configurable analogue output.

Typical Applications

• Typically used in industrial and commercial applications, mainly focusing on ventilation due to the lack of airdraulic noise and motor noise.
• Smoke extraction which has a forced start with fault inhibition.
• Heating and Air conditioning, because of the optimised control in fluid processing and adjustable flow rates which improves energy management.
• Pumping, useful in this application because of the multi-motor configuration and sleep/wake function. Alongside the detection of underload/over load.

When do the cooling fans on the ATV212 VFD switch on?

The fan control strategy of the ATV212 means that the fans will start when the drive is in the “RUN” state. The fan will then stop after the “STOP” command has been given. There may be a time delay because of the thermal state.
