RS PRO NYM-J Mains Installation Cable

Introducing the RS PRO NYM-J mains installation cable. This electrical cable features a PVC outer sheath and a nominal voltage rating of 300/500 V used for electrical wiring installations inside buildings. The high-quality mains power cable is suitable for use in dry, damp or wet areas and can be installed in, on or under plaster, brickwork or concrete, however, it is not recommended that this cable is laid into compacted concrete. It can also only be used in outdoor applications if the electric cable is not exposed to direct sunlight as it is not UV tolerant.

Features and Benefits:

• Cable be installed in dry and damp areas
• Highly flexible PVC outer jacket of cable allows easy installation
• PVC sheath and insulation of cable are flame retardant to IEC 60332‐1
• PVC sheath is mechanically tough and resistant to most chemicals

Cable Construction

This electrical installation cable consists of cores made up of IEC 60228 class 1 solid copper conductors. Each individual core is surrounded by color-coded PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation for easy identification of the wires. Both the cores are then surrounded by a final outer layer of a tough PVC based material called a sheath or jacket. This mains power cable also has a filler compound that fills the gaps between the cores and the outer sheath to give the cable a round shape and is also better insulated.

What is Mains Installation Cable?

A mains power cable connects an appliance to a mains electricity supply through the use of a wall socket or an extension lead which will then be plugged into a mains supply. Mains installation cable is used to provide a network to power up buildings and premises.

Where is this cable used?

This NYM-J mains installation cable is the most important cable for today’s electricians and is used for power and lighting wiring installations in a wide range of buildings including the following:

• Residential households
• Administrative buildings
• Industrial and commercial premises
• Shops and farms
