3M™ Extreme Sealing Tape 4412N, Translucent
The 3M™ 4412N is a Translucent Extreme Sealing Tape that is designed to give you professional results when exposed outdoors in direct sunlight as well as temperature and humidity changes whilst creating an effective seal. The 4412N is made up of a very soft and thick acrylic adhesive that has excellent sealing properties and an ionomer film backing that is tough yet very conformable and abrasive resistant.
Features and Benefits
Very good resistance to many common industrial solvents as well as elevated temperature exposure
Tacky adhesive sticks on contact for an immediate bond with no drying time, oozing, or clean up
Neutral, 2 mm thick, conformable tape forms effective seals over contours, edges, rivets, and screw heads
Durable ionomer backing resists UV and chemical exposure
The backing is paintable and offers a clean appearance
Seal joints, seams or penetrations
Achieve professional sealing results even when used outdoors
Application
The think acrylic adhesive creates a great water seal that can stick to a number of materials without any drying time, dripping or clean up. It can conform over contours, edges, rivets and screw heads. Overlapping the tape joints can enhance the seal over a sustained area whilst maintaining a strong and effective seal. The 3M 4412N is paintable if you need to blend it in with adjoining surfaces whilst holding securely through sun, rain, snow and temperature extremes.

FAQ's
What is the difference between masking tape and duct tape?
Masking tape is for protecting and blocking off areas when painting and decorating and is usually made of a thin and easy to tear paper. The adhesive should be fairly easy to remove from most surfaces without leaving any damage or residue. The backing should also be thin and easily conform to uneven surfaces and shapes. Duct tape is for sealing air ducts and often coated with Polyethylene and is very strong, flexible and water-resistant.
What is the shelf life of this tape?
This tape has a shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture
What is the difference between duct tape, gaffer tape and cloth-backed tape?
The very common and versatile duct tape and gaffa tapes are both types of cloth-backed tape, though they are different in their adhesive and type of backing. Gaffer tape, for example, is a fabric material that is heat resistant and non-reflective with an adhesive that does not leave marks when removed from the surface, and so is suited to temporary applications. As such, it is ideal for theatre and studio applications where subtly, versatility and reliability are needed. Duct tape is a broad term that includes many different steps of material and adhesive, but are typically characterized by a polyethylene film and a rubber-based adhesive. It's strength, cohesion and ability to tear easily means it is suitable for a number of applications where permanence is required.
What are the types of backing materials for cloth tapes?
There are many backing materials available on cloth tapes:
Fabric/cloth such as cotton is used to improve the tensile strength, heat resistance and electrical resistance. Woven fibres are stronger than non-woven.
Glass/Fiberglass are reinforced with glass or fibreglass particles. This enhances the heat resistance.
Plastic/Polymer is protected by a liner in the form of a tape, film or laminate.
PET/Polyester have a high resistance to solvents and age well.
