RS PRO NYY-J Mains Power Cable
From RS PRO a high-quality NYY-J mains power cable also known as a power control cable with a PVC outer sheath and a nominal voltage rating of 600/1000V. This durable and cost-efficient mains cable is used for the electrical energy supply in fixed wiring installations both indoors and outdoors. The cable can be directly buried under the ground, in brickwork, in concrete as well as submerged under water for a limited period of time.
Cable Construction
This electrical mains power cable consists of cores made up of IEC 60228 class 1 solid copper conductors. Each individual core is surrounded by colour coded PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) insulation for easy identification of the wires. The cores are then surrounded by a final outer layer of a tough PVC called a sheath or jacket. This power cable also has a filler compound which fills the gaps between the cores and the outer sheath to give the cable a round shape.
Features and Benefits
Flame retardant to IEC 60332-1 & EN 50265-2-1
Mechanically tough, durable and resistant to abrasion
UV and weather resistant
Lightweight
Good electrical and insulation properties
Corrosion resistant and rustproof
Cost effective due to long cable lifespan
Where is this cable used?
This NYY-J mains power cable can be used both in the open air and in indoor applications where there is little chance of mechanical stress. The power cable can be directly buried underground, in brickwork and in concrete as long as the concrete is not shaken, vibrated or compressed. The cable can also be submerged under water for no longer than 2 weeks. When this mains cable needs to comply with the UK wiring regulations BS7671 for burial in the ground it should be installed in a conduit or ducting which will protect the power cable against mechanical damage. Suitable applications for this mains cable include the following:
Fixed indoor and outdoor applications
Transformer stations
Electric power plants
Industrial plants
Metropolitan networks
Connection of signalling devices in industry and traffic lights
Standards
IEC 60502-1
